Project MOVER wins NYSERDA Clean Transportation Prize

Written by: Ossening Mayor Rika Levin

Project MOVER is one of 10 grand prize winners of the NYSERDA Clean Transportation Prize, and one of only 4 grand prize winners, state-wide, in the electric mobility category. The award comes with a three-year grant of $7 million (click here for NYS Press Release).

Project MOVER is a partner consortium led by EIT InnoEnergy and includes the Village of Ossining, Nelson Nygaard, and ACTON eBikes. This grant will provide the opportunity to bring affordable and clean micromobility to five Rivertown communities in Westchester County, including the Village and Town of Ossining, and the Villages of Tarrytown, Croton, and Dobbs Ferry while aiming to serve as a blueprint for communities across the state.

Together, the partners will deploy e-bikes, charging and docking stations, and additional gear in a way that removes typical barriers that our communities face with using shared micromobility offerings – like the need to own a smartphone or a credit card.

This grant allocation is not only about winning: it's about ideation and implementation. Working together, we will be able to connect our partner communities and enhance quality of life. This partnership was established from our relationships and gives us something special: an opportunity for widespread, far-reaching, lasting and scalable success. With New York State's commitment to being a leader in clean transportation, the Village of Ossining will be able to do our part to get folks where they need to be: healthcare, school, or even just to the supermarket. Our access provides opportunity, which in turn provides equity.

Today I had the pleasure of bringing our local stakeholders, key staff, and volunteers together to celebrate our collective win. In attendance were our local and state elected officials:

  • New York State Senator Pete Harckham

  • Westchester County Executive George Latimer

  • Chair of the Board of Legislators Catherine Borgia

  • Town of Ossining Supervisor Dana Levenberg

  • Village of Tarrytown Mayor Karen Brown

  • Village of Croton on Hudson Mayor Brian Pugh

  • Village of Ossining Trustee Dana White

  • Town Of Ossining Council Member Elizabeth Feldman

  • Village of Tarrytown Trustee Thomas Mitchell

  • Village of Tarrytown Trustee David Kim

  • Village of Tarrytown Trustee Effie Philipps-Staley

  • Village of Dobbs Ferry Trustee Nicole Sullian

  • Village and Town of Ossining Clerk Sue Donnelly

  • Town of Ossining Highway Superintendent Peter Connolly

We also welcomed representatives from our partners: Neighbors Link, Open Door, Hudson Link, and IFCA.

Research shows that collaborative problem-solving leads to better outcomes. Our people work together towards innovation and workforce growth. Collectively, we will create a scalable program that can be used throughout New York - and hopefully the entire country.

We will host our first Project MOVER Town Hall on Wednesday, November 30th, @ 7:00PM at the Ossining Public Library. An agenda with more information will be shared next week. We looking forward to you joining the conversation.
