HISTORY

Created as a multi-racial, multi-religious community response to the social movement of the 60’s, the Interfaith Council for Action (now known as IFCA), has continued its service to diverse low-income communities.  A small group of thoughtful, committed people envisioned an organization that would address the inequities that they witnessed all around them. As the organization took on issues of social justice, healthcare, employment training and youth services, it became apparent that a lack of quality, safe, affordable housing was the predominant barrier to financial self-sufficiency and social equity.

IFCA was incorporated in 1968 as a non-profit 501(c)(3) charitable organization and has evolved to become a leading nonprofit developer and manager of affordable workforce housing. In 1972, the agency bought and renovated its first multifamily house, offering apartments to working families at below market, affordable rents.

IFCA is the oldest neighborhood preservation organization in Westchester County. As a Neighborhood Preservation Program participant, IFCA has been a leading force in the ownership, rehabilitation and management of affordable workforce housing in the Village of Ossining. IFCA serves residents mainly in the Village of Ossining in Westchester County; however, the agency also operates and administers programs in the Village of Tarrytown, and the City of Peekskill.

IFCA continues its mission of providing affordable, workforce housing, while enhancing the communities in which it operates.
